Agent micropayments pass 138 million on Coinbase Base via x402, Chainalysis reports

Cumulative payments over the x402 protocol grew from about 1,500 in mid 2025 to more than 138 million by the third quarter of 2026, with over 87 percent of them under 10 cents, according to Chainalysis. The median time from a wallet's first funding to its first payment fell from 73 days in late 2025 to 18 minutes, a pattern consistent with wallets created by software and put to work immediately.

The x402 foundation, launched under the Linux Foundation in July, counts Visa, Mastercard, Stripe and Google among its members.
