UK Legal Aid Agency breach update finds stolen records dating back to 1978

Follow-up analysis of the Legal Aid Agency's April 2025 breach has found that about 250,000 of the stolen records predate 2007, with the earliest verified record dating from 1978. The data covers applicant and recipient contact details, dates of birth, National Insurance numbers, criminal history and financial data, along with provider portal credentials and some HM Prison and Probation Service data.

The agency says there is no evidence the stolen data has been published. Because the incident dates to 2025 and no total affected count has been disclosed, this update is carried as cybersecurity news rather than as a tracked breach in the dashboard.
