OpenAI engineer arrested in alleged conference-room bugging case
Federal prosecutors unsealed a complaint against Abdulrahman Alfozan, 35, an OpenAI product engineer since July 2025, charging him with using a device to intercept oral communications. OpenAI found an encrypted audio device hidden behind a TV in an executive conference room on September 30 and says similar devices were found in a bag linked to him. He was arrested October 9 and remains in custody. OpenAI says there is no indication model weights, source code or customer data were accessed.
